‘Watchmen’ wins for outstanding limited series
“Watchmen,” an audacious series about racism and trauma, won its fourth award of the night.
Accepting the award for the series was creator Damon Lindelof, who noted that the story — which in nine episodes explored the generational thread of racial violence, masked vigilantism and also space — wasn’t specifically his to tell.
Standing in front of a framed American flag with a group of fellow crew members, Lindelof delivered a speech with a lyrical cadence telling the audience that “history is mystery” and to ”affirm, dissent and never contradict yourself.”
“Stop worrying about getting canceled,” he added, “and ask yourself what you’re doing to get renewed.”
Wearing a T-shirt that read “Remember Tulsa ’21,″ Lindelof ended with this: “The fires that destroyed Black Wall Street still burn today. The only way to put them out is if we do it together.”
