How to watch Monday, not on New Year’s

[ad_1]

If you were expecting to watch the Rose Parade the morning of New Year’s Day, you’ll have to wait another day.

The annual parade typically kicks off the morning the first day of the calendar year, but it won’t happen on Jan. 1 this year for the 20th time in its 134-year history. That’s because the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, the organizers of the parade, have kept it a tradition to not hold the parade on Sundays. This year’s Rose Bowl Game, which follows the parade, will also be on Jan. 2.

Here’s what to know, and how to watch, this year’s Rose Parade:

Royal Court Jeannine Briggs, Abigail Griffith, Jaeda Walden, Rose Queen Nadia Chung, Swetha Somasundaram, Ava Feldman and McKenzie Street, clockwise from left, at the 133rd Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif., Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022.

When is the 2023 Rose Parade?

The Rose Parade will begin in Pasadena, California, at 11 a.m. ET on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023. Floats and other people part of the parade will go 5.5 miles down Colorado Boulevard.

How to watch the 2023 Rose Parade

The parade will be broadcasted by more than one network. Viewers can watch the Rose Parade on ABC, NBC and Univision. It will also be streamed on Peacock.

Why is the 2023 Rose Parade not on Jan. 1?

The Tournament of Roses has had a “Never on Sunday” tradition that began in 1893 when the first Rose Parade was scheduled to fall on a Sunday. The Mercury News reported the tradition was started to avoid scaring horses outside local churches and disrupting church services.
