Joan Collins Puts Her Midtown Co-op on the Market

The actress Joan Collins is selling her longtime Manhattan pied-à-terre, a spacious co-op where she entertained a host of celebrity friends.

Ms. Collins, best known for her role in the 1980s TV series “Dynasty,” and her husband, Percy Gibson, a film producer who also worked in theater, bought the apartment at 110 East 57th Street, a.k.a. the Dorchester, as newlyweds in early 2002. They moved in about a year later.

Mr. Gibson found the place after an exhaustive search, “and he cannily kept this one to the last,” Ms. Collins recalled in an email, noting that she “fell in love immediately with the spaciousness of the rooms and the feeling of light and airiness.”

“The clincher for me,” she added, “was the 16 closets it has.”

The couple, who met in New York, also have residences in London, Los Angeles and Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera. They have been spending far less time in their Midtown home, however, and over the last few years placed it on the market, on and off, for as much as $2.9 million. They turned down offers, though, with the thought that they might someday use the apartment more.

Their unit, on the eighth floor of the 21-story Dorchester, now has an asking price of $2.095 million, according to the listing agent, Carolyn Weiner-Trapness of Brown Harris Stevens. Monthly maintenance is $3,637. (There is an additional $634.27 monthly capital assessment through the end of 2022 to cover a decline in commercial tenant revenue because of the pandemic.)

The apartment is actually three units that had been combined by a previous owner, encompassing around 2,200 square feet, with three bedrooms and three full bathrooms.

The home is entered through a foyer that leads to an open living room and formal dining area, where oversize windows overlook 57th Street, and a galley kitchen. “The kitchen could easily be opened up to the living and dining room to give it a loftlike feeling,” Ms. Weiner-Trapness said.

The primary bedroom suite — once a studio apartment, according to Ms. Weiner-Trapness — has a large, walk-in closet, which Ms. Collins said was her favorite spot in the home, plus two additional closets. One of the other two bedrooms was used as an office/den.

Over the years the couple made some updates and cosmetic changes, like refinishing the oak floors, refitting the bathrooms and installing mirrors over many of the walls.

During their time at the apartment, they hosted several parties, with a guest list that included Ms. Collin’s sister, the romance novelist Jackie Collins; the actress Diahann Carroll; and the musicians Michael Feinstein and Neil Sedaka. “Every time Neil or Michael told us they’d come, we would rent a piano in the hopes we could persuade them to play a few tunes,” Ms. Collins said, “and I was overwhelmed that they always graciously agreed.”

Ms. Collins, who has written several books and novels, has appeared in numerous films and TV shows over the years. More recently, she worked on the upcoming drama series “Glow and Darkness,” and also appeared in “American Horror Story” and “The Royals.” But she is probably most remembered for her role as the scheming Alexis Carrington Colby on the popular ’80s drama series “Dynasty.” (She also appeared on the “Guiding Light” daytime soap opera for several months in 2002.)

The Dorchester, situated near Park Avenue and just a few blocks from Central Park, has a full-time doorman and is pet friendly. The white-brick building was erected in 1958 and contains 108 co-op units.
