Kim Cattrall’s Hamptons Home for De-Stressing From the City

Kim Cattrall, one of the stars of the HBO series “Sex and the City,” is selling her longtime home in East Hampton, N.Y., a beachfront cottage with a separate studio that served as her refuge “outside the glam.”

The asking price is $3.25 million, according to the listing agent, Rebekah Baker of Sotheby’s International Realty, with $12,254 in annual property taxes.

Ms. Cattrall bought the one-story house at 105 Gerard Drive, on the town’s quiet Springs peninsula, for $450,000 in 1998, the year “Sex and the City” first aired. She then spent the next few years transforming the property, which has two bedrooms and one and a half baths and sits on four-tenths of an acre along Gardiners Bay.

“I always wanted a quiet beachfront home outside the glam,” said Ms. Cattrall, who also owns an apartment on Park Avenue in Manhattan, “a home that would be restorative and simple to maintain, where I could have privacy, relax and decompress. My home has been my sanctuary.”

But she now has a new sanctuary: a waterfront house on the east coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, which she bought in 2014. Ms. Cattrall grew up on the island and currently lives there with her partner, Russell Thomas, whom she met four years ago when he was working at the BBC. “We are now spending more time there close to my mum and family,” she said in an email.

Ms. Cattrall, who portrayed the audacious Samantha Jones for all six seasons of “Sex and the City,” and in two subsequent movies, had been somewhat of a fixture in the Hamptons, where she was often seen at cocktail parties and various charity events. She was frequently spotted outdoors, too, swimming, kayaking and paddling in the bay or nearby Accabonic Harbor, as well as riding her bicycle along the scenic roads.

Her fenced-in East Hampton home had offered both privacy and creative inspiration. “I wrote all three of my books here,” she said, including one with her former husband, Mark Levinson, whom she married on the rear deck just after moving in.

The wood-shingled house, which measures 1,232 square feet, is entered past the front deck and opens onto a kitchen equipped with custom wood cabinetry, marble countertops, and stainless-steel and wood-paneled appliances. Off the kitchen is the main bedroom, which features a window seat and an en-suite half-bath. Across the hall is a full tiled bath and a second bedroom, also with a window seat, currently being used as a study. Several of Ms. Cattrall’s awards for her performance in “Sex and the City,” including a Golden Globe, are displayed there.

At the back of the house is an L-shaped great room that faces the bay and leads out to the rear deck. The great room, decorated in contemporary furnishings, contains areas for dining and lounging and features an insert wood-burning fireplace, as well as a motorized 59-by-80-inch movie screen and projector. The space also has a roomy sleeping loft with a walk-in closet and two skylights.

Throughout the interior are wide-plank oak floors and oversize windows that let in an abundance of light, while also providing sweeping views of the bay and the meticulously landscaped grounds of ornamental grasses, bluestone pathways, mahogany decking, and in the evening, professional landscape lighting.

“The minute you step inside you see the water from every window,” said Ms. Baker, the listing agent. “It’s really your quintessential beach home. It’s clean and crisp and understated.”

The detached studio sits midway into the property. It encompasses 336 square feet and has a half bath, along with heating and air-conditioning.

Other exterior amenities include a carport with pop-up safety bollards, a cabana-style outdoor shower off the studio, a hot tub and a fire pit just steps away from a private beach. “We usually have a fire in the fire pit until the first snow falls,” Ms. Cattrall said.

Now appearing on the Fox drama series “Filthy Rich,” which premiered in September, Ms. Cattrall says she has had “wonderful memories living on Gerard Drive.” And she will especially miss the walks around the neighborhood, her get-togethers with friends and watching the July fireworks from her outside decks.

“I thought about selling the property after my divorce in 2004,” she said, “but I just couldn’t — 22 years later, it’s time.”
