Richmond, Virginia, medical center worker dead



A hospital worker at a Richmond, Virginia, medical center was fatally shot by another hospital staffer early Wednesday morning, hospital officials and police said.

Police said there had been an altercation between two men in Virginia Commonwealth University’s medical center that resulted in one man shooting the other.

The shooter was taken into custody early Wednesday morning, VCU police said.

Both men worked at the hospital, said Mike Porter, an associate vice president of public relations at VCU Health.

No other injuries have been reported and the hospital said “all operations are normal” Wednesday morning.

VCU police said the Richmond police department are investigating.

What happened at the VCU hospital?

At 12:04 a.m. on May 10, VCU police said they received an emergency call about shots fired inside the VCU Medical Center North Hospital.

The altercation between the two men happened in a stairwell, CBS 6 News reported.

Porter said Wednesday there was no additional information available about the deceased man or the man in custody.

The Virginia Commonwealth University medical center where the shooting occurred is located near the center of Richmond, less than two miles away from the VCU campus.
