Blake Shelton steals back singer from Chance the Rapper

A coach’s steal button can be a powerful tool on “The Voice,” and Blake Shelton used his final steal for a little revenge.

Team Chance singers NOIVAS and Ray Uriel delivered a soulful rendition of the Donny Hathaway version of “Jealous Guy,” originally performed by John Lennon, during the final installment of the battle rounds Tuesday night.

Decked out in a black cowboy hat, matching blazer and Western-style belt buckle, NOIVAS captivated coaches Shelton, Chance the Rapper, Niall Horan and Kelly Clarkson with his magnetic stage presence.

“Your energy is incredible. It’s so powerful, and it’s infectious,” Clarkson said. “It’s awesome to get up there and sing a song with your whole body.”

Although Chance said NOIVAS was a clear frontrunner in the competition, Uriel’s crisp vocal delivery left him feeling “very torn.”

“You really held your own. There was no strain or anything,” Chance told the 24-year-old. “There were moments where NOIVAS came all the way downstage and was really performing, and then when it was your turn you were like, ‘Nah, I could do that too.’”

Chance added: “This is a very difficult decision for me.”

In the end, Chance chose Uriel as the battle’s winner. But before NOIVAS could exit the stage, Shelton hit his steal button, bringing the 30-year-old singer onto his team and marking his final steal as a coach on the NBC singing competition. Chance used his block button during NOIVAS’ audition to prevent Shelton from pitching to him.

“I didn’t steal him. I just brought him back home,” Shelton told host Carson Daly. “If Chance hadn’t used that stupid block earlier, this would’ve never happened.”

“I love the fact that I was blocked from NOIVAS in the blind auditions, and I was able for once to get somebody back on my team that I thought needed to be on my team from the very beginning,” Shelton continued. “I mean, the man has a cowboy hat. He belongs on my team.”
