Shortly after reinstating the account that tracks the location of Elon Musk’s private jet, Twitter suspended it again Wednesday.
The account was first suspended earlier in the day, raising questions about the billionaire’s pledge to allow free speech on the social media platform.
Later Twitter reinstated the account and said it updated its “Private Information” policy “to prohibit sharing someone else’s live location in most cases.”
“When someone shares an individual’s live location on Twitter, there is an increased risk of physical harm,” the company said. “Moving forward, we’ll remove Tweets that share this information, and accounts dedicated to sharing someone else’s live location will be suspended.”

Critics pointed out that the Twitter policy would technically prevent all posts that could reveal someone’s location.
Musk clarified that Twitter users could post a location with a time delay and added exceptions such as sharing a video of a breaking news event.
Later Wednesday evening Musk said he planned to take legal action against Sweeney and “organizations who supported harm to my family.”
Musk, who is a self-described “free speech absolutist,” said last month that he would allow the jet-tracker account which had 530,000 followers.
“My commitment to free speech extends even to not banning the account following my plane, even though that is a direct personal safety risk,” he tweeted.
So Florida college student Jack Sweeney was surprised Wednesday when his personal Twitter account and the Musk jet-tracking account were suspended. Accounts that tracked the jet flights of Mark Zuckerberg, John Kerry and Donald Trump were also suspended.
In response, Sweeney created a Mastodon account to track Musk’s jet. He uses public air traffic data to track the jet’s flights and regularly provides updates on the location of the jet.
